Weddings and Premarital Mentoring

Your Big Day is a Big Deal

The Bible describes marriage as two becoming one. That is no small thing! When husbands and wives sacrifice for each other and submit to one another, marriage becomes one of the best pictures of the Gospel the world will ever see.

Getting engaged kicks off a fun season filled with planning and parties. But engagement is just that — a season.

God designed marriage to last forever. That’s why our premarital program prepares you for more than the big day. Through homework assignments and one-on-one sessions with a mentor couple, we’re setting you up for a lifetime together.

Get Started

“‘...a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.’ So they are no longer two but one flesh. Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate.” - Mark 10:7-9, NIV

What to Expect During Premarital Mentoring

Before you walk down the aisle, you’ll meet with a premarital mentor couple for four to five one-on-one sessions. Mentor couples are often older married couples who share a deep love for God and His Word and have lots of life experience.

Premarital mentoring is available to you, regardless of where you are getting married and who is officiating your wedding. If you are asking a NewSpring pastor to officiate, you’ll have an additional meeting with that pastor as your wedding day approaches.

As you can imagine, this program takes time. You’ll need to submit your wedding application six months before your wedding in order to schedule your sessions and reserve your officiant.

FAQs

What do we talk about with our premarital mentor couple?

You’ll talk about God’s plan and purpose for marriage, marital roles and responsibilities, communication skills, conflict resolution, and how to develop realistic expectations for marriage. You’ll learn your relational strengths and identify areas where you may need growth.

What are the requirements for a NewSpring pastor to officiate my wedding?

Marriage is a covenant couples make before God and others. That’s why we require the following before marrying a couple:

  • Both the bride and groom need to know Jesus as their Lord and Savior (2 Corinthians 6:14-18).
  • Couples must complete the premarital program (four to five sessions with a NewSpring mentor couple as well as a session with the NewSpring pastor who will be officiating).

We also ask couples to have a wedding director so the day runs smoothly and the pastor is available to shepherd you spiritually. If you do not have a wedding director, NewSpring can recommend one to you.

How much does it cost?

The premarital program is free. However, there is a minimum fee of $250 for a NewSpring pastor to officiate weddings. You’ll also need to cover any additional travel expenses for the pastor. Please note: NewSpring pastors are unable to perform weddings on a Sunday or at locations that are more than two hours away.

Can I get married at the church?

Please submit a facilities request form to ask about using our facilities. This form can be found here.

Can I book a NewSpring musician?

You can request a NewSpring musician on your wedding application. If a musician is available for your wedding date, a sound system and a qualified audio engineer must be provided for the rehearsal and wedding. (A member of NewSpring’s audio team may be provided for a fee, if available).

May we still participate in mentoring if another pastor is officiating our wedding?

Of course! Both premarital mentoring and financial coaching are recommended and available to you.
